Pharmacy Tech Course

The Pharmacy Tech course offered in the CBE Division of Texarkana College is recognized as an approved education/training program by the PTCB. Students who complete this course are eligible to take the PTCBE. This comprehensive 175-hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and includes pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. In addition to classroom lectures and labs, this program includes an 80-hour clinical externship so participants can gain on-the-job training through a local pharmacy. Participants must meet the attached course pre-requisites to be eligible to participate in the externship that occurs after course completion.

Criminal Background Requirement: For students who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas. If you have a question about your background and licensure, please check with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board by accessing their website at https://ptcb.zendesk.com and submit a request on your topic of study to determine if you are qualified to obtain a certificate in that field. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.
