Program Details

  • Type: Short-term, non-credit certification program
  • Length: 16 weeks
  • Classroom Contact Hours: 130 hours

  • Online four-month payment plan (credit/debit card required with 25% down payment of $691.25 plus $30 enrollment fee)
  • Deadline to register: Friday, Prior to Class Start Date by 3pm
    • If a class has reached its maximum capacity, the registration deadline is no longer applicable. Early registration is strongly encouraged to ensure availability. Please note that seats cannot be held or reserved without full registration and payment.

Certification Preparation

Prepares students for the Billing & Coding Specialist Certification (BCSC) from the National Healthcareer AssociationCertification exam scheduled approximately two weeks after course completion.

The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) requires candidates taking the Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam to have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Enrollment Requirements

To enroll in the Medical Billing & Coding program:

  • Register in person at the Community & Business Education Center, located in the Nelson Administration Building on the Texarkana College campus.
  • Complete a registration form and provide either:
    • Full payment, or
    • Enroll in the four-month payment plan (requires credit/debit card and $691.25 down payment plus $30 enrollment fee).

No prerequisite documentation (transcript, diploma, immunization records, etc.) is required at the time of registration.


Internet Access Requirement

All students must have access to the internet during the course for communication purposes. Texarkana College utilizes Microsoft Teams and other online platforms to share course materials, provide updates, and facilitate communication between instructors and students. Reliable internet access is essential for successful participation in the program.

Students are welcome to use the Texarkana College Academic Commons Wi-Fi to meet this requirement.


Community Education Refund Policy

Students who wish to drop this course may receive a 100% refund of tuition upon request on or before the drop date listed above.
Note: Refund excludes the $30 payment plan enrollment fee, unless the course is cancelled.


Criminal Background Check

Students with a criminal background should be aware that it may affect eligibility for certification in the State of Texas.

If you have concerns about your background and licensure, please contact a certification specialist at the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) at: 913-661-5562.

You may also request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency to determine your eligibility for certification in this field.
