Additional Course Information:
This comprehensive program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in retail or other pharmacy settings and will take the ExCPT exam through National Healthcareer Association.
Through classroom lecture and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, and billing and reimbursement.
To ensure compliance with Texarkana College, students must submit a copy of their High School Diploma or GED equivalent to the CBE office upon enrollment or within the first week of class. This documentation is essential for completing the registration process.

Students who wish to drop this course may receive a 100% refund of tuition upon request on or before the drop date listed above (refund excludes $30 payment plan enrollment fee).

Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program:
Texarkana College’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program offers financial assistance for students pursuing Allied Health certifications through its Integrated Education & Training (IET) initiative. Here’s what you need to know:
What the AEL Program Provides:
- Free Adult Education Classes
Includes High School Equivalency (GED), English as a Second Language (ESL), and College & Career Readiness courses. - Integrated Education & Training (IET)
Allows students to work on basic skills or GED while enrolling in workforce programs like Allied Health. - Financial Assistance for Allied Health Courses
AEL will pay for portions of the Allied Health training costs if grant funds are available. Funding amount will be determined by AEL.
Students may be responsible for credential exams, certification fees, and externship costs when applicable.
AEL Eligibility & Enrollment:
- Students that already have a college degree, typically do not qualify for AEL classes.
- Enroll in person at the Community Education Center in the Nelson Administration Building at TC.
- Students must either pay tuition in full or set up a 4-month online payment plan. To enroll in the payment plan, a down payment of 25% of tuition plus a $30 non-refundable enrollment fee is required at registration. The remaining balance will be divided into three monthly online payments, payable by credit or debit card only
- After enrollment, we will connect student with AEL to set up an in-person appointment
- Classes begin every 8 weeks following Texarkana College’s academic calendar.
- Students must attend an AEL support class weekly during training.
AEL Funding Source:
Grant funding from the Texas Workforce Commission to support Adult Education and Literacy programs, including IET and Allied Health pathways
Criminal Background Check:
For students who may have a criminal background, please be advised that the background could keep you from being licensed by the State of Texas. If you have a question about your background and licensure, please check with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board by accessing their website at https://ptcb.zendesk.com and submit a request on your topic of study to determine if you are qualified to obtain a certificate in that field. You also have the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the applicable licensing agency.
