A Medication Aide Update is designed for certified medication aides to meet annual renewal REQUIREMENTS AND strengthen core competencies.

Certified Nurse Aide – Skills & Clinical Training (HHS-Approved)

This course is designed for individuals seeking to complete the skills and clinical components of the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program, as required by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). It is ideal for students who have already completed the required theory portion or HHSC’s 60-hour online training and now need hands-on experience to qualify for the state certification exam.

Course Overview:

  • Skills Training check off: in-person instruction focused on essential nurse aide skills such as personal care, basic nursing procedures, infection control, safety and emergency protocols, and communication techniques.
  • Clinical Experience: 44 hours of supervised clinical practice in a long-term care facility, providing direct patient care under the guidance of licensed professionals.

Program Highlights:

  • Fulfills HHSC requirements for NATCEP (Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program)
  • Prepares students for the Texas CNA certification exam
  • Includes skill validation and real-world clinical experience
  • Must complete HHSC’s free 60-hour Computer-Based Training prior to enrollment

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Valid government-issued ID and Social Security card
  • Proof of immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB test, Influenza, Tdap)
  • Background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for healthcare providers

Outcome: Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the Texas CNA certification exam and pursue employment in long-term care facilities, hospitals, or home health agencies.
