Program Details

  • Type: Short-term, non-credit certification program.

What You’ll Learn

This comprehensive program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in retail or other pharmacy settings and will take the ExCPT exam through National Healthcareer Association. 

  • Dosage Calculations & Conversions. Master calculations for accurate medication dosing, including IV flow rates and dose conversions.
  • Drug Classifications & Top 200 Drugs. Learn to classify medications and gain familiarity with the most commonly prescribed drugs.
  • Sterile Compounding & Aseptic Technique. Train in sterile product preparation—covering total parenteral nutrition (TPN), IV flow, and aseptic handling.
  • Prescription Dispensing & Labeling. Develop skills in dispensing medications accurately and preparing proper prescription labeling.
  • Inventory Management. Understand effective stock control, ordering, and record-keeping practices in pharmacy settings.
  • Billing & Reimbursement Processes. Gain insight into third-party billing, payment processing, and healthcare reimbursement systems.
  • Pharmacy Software & Workflow Systems. Hands-on exposure to typical pharmacy software platforms and workflow best practices.
  • Professional Standards & Certification Preparation
    • Prepare to sit for the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technician) exam through NHA (National Healthcareer Association) and meet requirements for employment in retail or clinical pharmacy environments.

Enrollment Requirements

To enroll in the Pharmacy Technician program:

  • Register in person at the Community Education Center, located in the Nelson Administration Building on the Texarkana College campus.
  • Complete a registration form and provide either:
    • Full payment, or
    • Enroll in the four-month payment plan (requires credit/debit card and $446.25 down payment plus $30 enrollment fee).

No documentation is required at the time of registration.
Required documentation will be collected prior to the clinical externship. See below.

Community Education Refund Policy

Students who wish to drop this course may receive a 100% refund of tuition upon request on or before the drop date listed above (refund excludes $30 payment plan enrollment fee).

Criminal Background Check

Please be advised that a criminal background could prevent you from being licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of Texas. If you have questions regarding your background and eligibility for licensure, we recommend contacting the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). You can visit their website at https://ptcb.zendesk.com and submit a request related to your area of study to determine if you qualify for certification.

You also have the right to request a Criminal History Evaluation Letter from the applicable licensing agency to confirm your eligibility before enrolling.
