Kempo Kids at Texarkana College!
Empower your child with confidence, discipline, and physical fitness through Kempo Kids—a dynamic martial arts program designed specifically for young learners.

Led by Christopher Atnip, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kajukembo Karate, this program uses innovative, age-appropriate methods and just the right amount of fun to teach essential life and physical skills that benefit children now and as they grow into adulthood.

Students will develop:

  • Coordination, speed, power, flexibility, timing, balance, and endurance
  • Self-defense techniques including forms, ground fighting, blocking, kicking, striking drills, and sparring
  • Confidence, focus, and respect in a safe, supportive environment

Self Defense & Martial Arts, Beginner to Advanced (Ages 13-Up)

Kajukenbo is a complete, no-nonsense self-defense system utilizing the most applicable techniques of Tang Soo Do, Judo, Jujitsu, Kenpo and Kungfu.  You will receive disciplined, focused, real-world training from instructors with a combined 50 plus years in Martial Arts. The physical benefits of our class are profound; as students learn martial arts, they will also improve cardio, strength and flexibility. Confidence in oneself and abilities are gained through training. We also have leadership with additional black belts and instructors in Boxing, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Shaolin Kenpo, & Sil Lum Kung Fu to add additional depth to your training.

Instructors: Christopher Atnip, 2nd degree Black Belts in Kajukembo Karate and Jujitsu and. Texarkana College is a certified Jeet Kune Do training center.

UKE 109: The Music of Disney

Can you feel the love tonight?  The song says it is where you are—but only if you are with us learning some great Disney tunes!  This one-hour class is for ages 10 and up who have completed uke 101 or have experience with basic uke chords. Just bring yourself, your uke, and a tuner. Copies of PowerPoint slides, our class songbook, and other handouts will be provided to add to you binders, and as always—SNACKS!  Any questions:  Catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu

UKE 101: From Zero to Hero

Beginning Ukulele

This class, adapted from Bogart and Peters’ 21 Songs in 6 Days: Learn Ukulele the Easy Way, will take novice students through the history and anatomy of the ukulele and includes how to buy a uke, holding, strumming, tuning, singing along, and chords C, Am, F, G7, C7. You will have all the tools to play dozens of songs after this two- and 1/2-hour session! Playing the ukulele is easy, fun, and addictive! This class is appropriate for age levels 10-100 and is guaranteed to make you smile! You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a ukulele. That’s pretty close!  A binder with PowerPoint slides, handouts, and our songbook, as well as snacks are included. Just bring yourself, your uke, and your tuner.
