UKE 103- Overcome The Humdrum Strum

April 13 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Armed with skills from UKE 102-Barrels of Carols, you can take your playing up a notch or two! Course topics include more chord shapes, advanced strumming, fingerpicking patterns and introduction to chord melody, and simple transposing.  Of course, you’ll learn lots of new songs.  This is a 3-hour course that meets for 1.5 hours on two successive Tuesdays.  Life’s a beach, better bring your ukulele!  This class is for ages 10 and up.  Just bring yourself, your uke, your binder from Uke 101 and 102, and a tuner. Snacks and light lunch provide. If you need any advice on purchasing a ukulele before class or more information, email catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu.

UKE 108: 12 Bar Blues

April 23 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

What do Johnny B. Goode, Day Tripper, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and Kansas City have in common?  All are based on the 12-bar blues!  In this short, one-hour class, you will learn the structure of the 12-bar blues which can apply to 100s of songs.  We’ll add a few cool techniques including intros, outros, and turn arounds.  Heck, you’ll even write your own blues tune!  Watch out Chuck Berry!  This class is for ages 10 and up who have completed uke 101 or know some basic uke chords.  Just bring yourself, your uke, and a tuner. Copies of PowerPoint slides, our class songbook, and other handouts will be provided to add to you binders, and as always—SNACKS!  Any questions:  Catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu

UKE 107:The Beatles

May 14 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

What music is more fitting for the Fab 4-string uke than that of the Far-4 Beatles.  In this one-hour class, you’ll learn several familiar Beatles tunes.  Beatles music fits great on the uke because the Beatles we all uke aficionados.  Come join John, George, Paul, Ringo, and me.  You don’t even have to be 64!  This class is for ages 10 and up who have completed uke 101 or know some basic uke chords.  Just bring yourself, your uke, and a tuner. Copies of PowerPoint slides, our class songbook, and other handouts will be provided to add to you binders, and as always—SNACKS!  Any questions:  Catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu

Let’s Talk About Kids: Parent Education Seminar For Divorcing Couples

March 7 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Let’s Talk About Kids is being conducted to provide information to families and children who are affected by divorce. The seminar is open to all persons concerned with family separation. Attendance is mandated for divorcing parents by the Bowie County District Courts. **Please do not bring your children to class**

Seminar Goals

  1. Discussion of expected behavioral changes in children.
  2. Exploration of how losses connected to divorce affect families and children.
  3. Review of alternatives to “Children in the Middle”
  4. Presentation tools and solutions.

Oil Painting

This course is designed for students who have had any type of experience with oil painting. Students will learn various paint application techniques and color mixing theories to provide a strong foundation for creating quality works of art. This course offers instruction in a variety of genres including landscapes, portraits, and still life. In addition, class exercises encourage students to confidently experiment to find their own direction and style.
