The Hybrid Introduction to Bladesmithing course at the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing is a combination of both the online introduction course and the in-person introduction course. Built on curriculum designed by Bill Moran, the father of modern Damascus Steel and the founder of the first bladesmithing school, this course includes lecture and hands-on work and is designed for anyone interested in making quality hand-forged blades. Metal selection, function, and different blade designs will be discussed. Hammer forging to shape, annealing, heat treating, grinding, and tempering will be taught.
The Hybrid Introduction to Bladesmithing course is structured in two parts. Part one includes the online introduction to bladesmithing course which covers the terminology, procedures of forging, heat treatment, forging, and grinding of blades. Part two of the hybrid course includes in-person training at the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing at Texarkana College where participants will develop the skills learned on the online platform in a hands-on setting. Upon registering for the hybrid introduction course, participants will receive login information and access to the online program at learnbladesmithing.com. Students must complete the online program prior to attending the in-person training. Please contact Don McIntosh at mcintoshknives@gmail.com for further information/questions.
