Kempo Kids (Age 5-12) March 2026

Kempo Kids use innovative, age level appropriate, methods and just the right amount of fun to teach our young students’ life and physical skills that will benefit them now and as they grow into adults.

This program develops the essential physical skills for self-defense like coordination, speed, power, flexibility, timing, balance and endurance through the practice of forms, self-defense techniques, ground fighting, basic blocking, kicking, striking drills, and sparring, while enhancing their confidence.

Instructor: Christopher Atnip, 2nd degree Black Belt in Kajukembo Karate and Texarkana College is a certified Jeet Kune Do training center.

Uke 104: Chord Melody for Ukulele

May 17 @ 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Like playing the uke, but would rather play the melody than sing it? In this class, you’ll use skills from Uke 101 and Uke 102 to play beautiful, full arrangements of songs including both the chords and melody at the same time. Students will learn to read tab for both melody and chords and use standard notation for timing. It’s easy, it’s fun – and it will impress all of your friends!

This 2.5 hour course is suitable for students from 10-100 with knowledge of basic chords. Just being yourself, your uke, and a tuner. Snacks will be provided! Any questions: catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu

Uke 107: Song Series: The Beatles!

May 7 @ 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm

What music is more fitting for the Fab 4-string uke than that of the Fab 4 Beatles! In this one hour class, you’ll learn several familiar Beatles tunes. Beatles music fits great on the uke because the Beatles we all uke aficionados. Come join John, George, Paul, Pingo and me. You don’t even have to be 64!

This class is for ages 10 and up who have completed uke 101 or know some basic uke chords. Just bring yourself, your uke, and a tuner. Copies of PowerPoint slides, out class songbook and other handouts will provided to add to your binders, and as always – SNACKS!

Uke 103: Overcome the Humdrum Strum

April 19 @ 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Armed with skills from Uke 102-Barrels of Carols, you can take your playing up a notch or two! Course topics include more chord shapes, advanced strumming, fingerpicking patterns and introduction to chord melody, and simple transposing. Of course, you’ll learn lots of new songs in this 2.5-hour course. Life’s a beach, better bring your ukulele!

Uke 110: Song Series: Celtic Songs

There was an old uker from T-town who never could nail that new strum down. She took off her frown and went for all downs. Now she plays for big crowds in a ball gown. Come get your Irish on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! In this one-hour class, we’ll learn some great Celtic tunes.

This class is for ages 10 and up who have completed Uke 101 or have experience with basic uke chords. Just bring yourself, your uke and a tuner.
