BLS Renewal (Skills Only)

This course is available for those that have taken the online BLS Heartcode with the American Heart Association and have taken BLS before. Students must go to https://elearning.heart.org and pay AHA appx $32 for the online BLS Heartcode.

Course Refund Policy:

Students who wish to drop this course may receive a 100% refund by request no later than 12:00 PM (noon) on the business day before class begins. No exceptions will be made.

Uke 102: Barrel of Carols

November 8 @ 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Instructor: Dr. Catherine Howard

This 2.5-hour course picks up where UKE 101-Zero to Hero leaves off and is based on Bogart and Peters’ 21 Easy Song for Christmas.

Students will learn additional chords, strumming patterns, and percussive techniques. You will learn loads of new songs, literally, barrels of Christmas carols. Not many ways to have much more fun than this! It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got four strings!

Just bring yourself, your uke and a tuner. Snacks are provided. If you need any advice on purchasing a ukulele before class or more information, please email: catherine.howard@texarkanacollege.edu

Uke 109: The Music of Disney!

September 24 @ 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Can you feel the love tonight?💗 The song says it is where you are—but only if you are with us learning some great Disney tunes!

This one-hour, online (offered through Google Meet) class is for ages 10 and up who have completed Uke 101 or have experience with basic uke chords.

Handles & Guards – Fall 2026

November 16 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

This hands-on course covers detailed techniques for crafting and finishing knife handles, including both full-tang and hidden tang styles. Students will explore the art of guards, butt caps, decorative file work, spiral dagger handles, silver inlay, and blade finishing.

What to Bring: Please bring one full-tang blade ready for fitting. A hidden tang blade will be provided, and if time allows, students may begin working on an additional blade in the shop.

Hybrid Introduction to Bladesmithing – Fall 2026

The Hybrid Introduction to Bladesmithing course at the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing combines both online and in-person instruction. Built on the curriculum developed by Bill Moran—renowned as the father of modern Damascus steel and founder of the first bladesmithing school—this course offers a blend of lecture and hands-on experience.

Designed for individuals interested in crafting high-quality, hand-forged blades, the course covers essential topics such as metal selection, blade function, and design variations. Students will learn techniques including hammer forging, annealing, heat treating, grinding, and tempering.

**Please keep in mind that the online portion of this class must be completed before the first day of in-person instruction.**

Introduction to Bladesmithing – Fall 2026

Course Overview:
This two-week course combines engaging lectures with hands-on experience, perfect for anyone interested in crafting high-quality, hand-forged blades. Participants will explore metal selection, blade functionality, and various design styles. Key techniques such as hammer forging, annealing, heat treating, grinding, and tempering will be taught in detail.

Students will create semi-finished blades and evaluate them for cutting performance, edge retention, hardness, and flexibility. By the end of the course, most participants will have produced a blade capable of meeting the cutting and bending standards of the American Bladesmith Society’s Journeyman test.
