Uke 112: Cowboy/Campfire Tunes

Is there anything better than sitting around a glowing campfire beneath a deep blue canopy of stars strumming cowboy/campfire songs on your uke?

If you are 10 or older and have completed Uke 101 (or have a good working knowledge of several chords), come join us online via Google Meet for an hour around the fire! I guarantee, armed with these great old songs, your next camping trip will be epic!

Uke 104: Chord Melody for Ukulele

Like playing the uke, but would rather play the melody than sing it?

In this class, you’ll use skills from Uke 101 and Uke 102 (or knowledge of basic chords) to play beautiful, full arrangements of songs including both the chords and melody at the same time.

In this 2.5-hour course, students will learn to read tab for both melody and chords and use standard notation for timing. It’s easy, it’s fun—and it will impress all of your friends!!

Discover the basics of sewing in this beginner-friendly course! Using your own full-size portable sewing machine, you’ll learn essential sewing techniques along with basic machine care and maintenance.

For the first class, please bring your sewing machine, scissors, thread, a small piece of test fabric, paper, and a pencil. During the first session, you’ll get familiar with your machine, review a list of recommended patterns, and receive your supply list to prepare for your project before the second class.

Take your volleyball skills to the next level with this focused training league led by Dedra Ganaway. Players will work on improving their serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and defensive skills while building a strong foundation in core volleyball techniques.

Through skill-focused drills, instruction, and gameplay, athletes will gain confidence, improve consistency, and develop the fundamentals needed for success on the court. This class is ideal for players preparing for school or club volleyball, as well as anyone looking to improve their volleyball skills and overall performance.

Please bring: Knee pads, arm sleeves, and volleyball shoes.

Gym Policies & Parent Expectations
  • Drop-Off Only: This is a drop-off program. Parents/guardians are not permitted to remain in the gym during camp sessions.
  • No Spectators: To minimize distractions and provide a safe learning environment, spectators are not allowed during camp activities.
  • Pick-Up Procedures: Participants must be picked up promptly at the designated end time. Please ensure your child knows who will be picking them up.
  • Arrival Time: Camp staff will supervise participants only during scheduled camp hours. Please do not drop off children early unless otherwise instructed.
  • Behavior Expectations: Participants are expected to follow coach instructions, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and treat others with respect.
  • Personal Belongings: Texarkana College and camp staff are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.
  • Medical Emergencies: Parents/guardians will be contacted in the event of an injury or medical emergency. Emergency contact information must be kept current. Please fill out medical wavier when signing up!
  • Photography Notice: Photos and videos may be taken during camp for promotional purposes unless a parent/guardian has submitted a written opt-out request.

Uke 101: From Zero to Hero (Beginner)

Instructor: Dr. Catherine Howard

This class, adapted from Bogart and Peters’ 21 Songs in 6 Days: Learn Ukulele the Easy Way, will take novice students through the history and anatomy of the ukulele and includes how to buy a uke, holding, strumming, tuning, singing along, and chords C, Am, F, G7, C7.

You will have all the tools to play dozens of songs after this 2.5-hour session! Playing the ukulele is easy, fun, and addictive! This class is appropriate for age levels 10-100 and is guaranteed to make you smile! You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a ukulele. That’s pretty close! A binder with PowerPoint slides, handouts, and our songbook, as well as snacks, are included. Just bring yourself, your uke, and your tuner.
